Sony's interesting lens-style camera design found in the QX10 provides some flexibility of using a cell phone as a camera.
The QX10 looks a bit like a DSLR or DIL interchangeable lens, but it's actually a full-fledged camera, complete with an image sensor. You could attach the QX10 to a cell phone, using the smartphone's LCD to frame your images and interact with the lens-style camera and then take advantage of the QX10's strong image recording features to improve on the smartphone's built-in camera.
